چکیده

Correlation functions, constructed from directional projections of the relative velocities of fragments, are used to determine the shape of the breakup volume in Preprint submitted to Elsevier 2 February 2008 coordinate space. For central collisions of Xe + Sn at 50 MeV per nucleon incident energy, measured with the 4π multi-detector INDRA at GSI, a prolate shape aligned along the beam direction with an axis ratio of 1:0.7 is deduced. The sensitivity of the method is discussed in comparison with conventional fragment-fragment velocity correlations.

Source Shape Determination with Directional Correlation Functions

From the recent results of the 4 INDRA campaign at GSI, it has been found that central collisions of heavy symmetric systems lead to the formation of a heavy, hot and expanding composite nucleus, which exhibits pronounced anisotropies in the fragment yields and kinetic energies, as it has been observed in the Au+Au and Xe+Sn systems studied in the energy range of 40 to 150 A.MeV [1]. Both break...

Resistance to surface flow such as Manning's and Darcy-Weisbach rouphness coefficients were an important input for estimating soil erosion by soil erosion process models. Also, it is very important for designing and implementing soil and water conservation practices. The objective of present research was predicting Manning's and Darcy-Weisbach rouphness coefficients in surface of a loess soil u...

Changing source characteristics during multifragment decay.

The spatial-temporal extent of the emitting system for central collisions in Kr 1 Au at E/A 5 35, 55, and 70 MeV is probed using fragment-fragment velocity correlation functions. Selection on fragment pairs of high velocity yields a stronger fragment-fragment Coulomb interaction than for inclusive fragment pairs. This result is consistent with fragment emission from a source of decreased spatia...

Universal shapes formed by two interacting cracks.

We investigate the origins of the widely observed "en passant" crack pattern, which forms through interactions between two approaching cracks. A rectangular elastic plate is notched on each long side and then subjected to quasistatic uniaxial strain from the short side. The two cracks propagate along approximately straight paths until they pass each other, after which they curve and release a l...

Determining Detonation Threshold for Multiple Fragment Impacts

Dual fragment impacts were studied using the Eulerian hydrocode CTH. The purposes of the study were to gain insight into the physical phenomena underlying multiple fragment impacts, and to develop an equation that predicts critical fragment velocity, the velocity at which a fragment must travel to cause a detonation in a covered explosive, for dual fragment impacts. Identical steel fragments we...
